Professional career

I have gained profound experience working as a self-employed translator since 2001. As a translator for English, authorised by the Priesident of the Higher Regional Court Düsseldorf, I carry out the translations of certificates and documents for courts and public authorities, for example birth ceritificates, renunciations of citizenship and court judgements. The focus of my translations lies on contracts of any kind, statements of claims, petitions for the enforcement of an awards and annual reports from English into German and vice versa.

On the basis of my professional experience as a commercial clerk in the fields of exporting, marketing, logistics as well as experience as an assistant in the office of a Deputy of the European Parliament in Brussels, I have broadened my horizon with regard to the special vocabulary in foreign languages in these fields.  I addition to this, I write press articles in foreign languages. Furthermore, I participated in the drafting of the annual report at an international company of the pharmaceutical branch and I had the tasks of making plausibility checks and of carrying out the proof-reading of the annual report in German as well as in English, French and Italian.

Qualifications in the field of foreign languages

I took my exam as a "state-recognised Translator for English" at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Düsseldorf in 1998. I have been authorised as a Translator for English by the President of the Higher Regional Court in Düsseldorf since the year 2000.

Furthermore, I took an exam as a Foreign Language Correspondent at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Aachen, and an exam as a Foreign Language Correspondent for French at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Bonn. Apart from these qualifications, I have been awarded "Italian Certificate of the German Association of the Germany Adult Education Association" (Deutscher Volkshochschulverband) as well as the certificate "French for Professional Purposes" of the German Adult Education Association (Deutscher Volkshochschulverband).

Academic degrees

Apart from my qualifications in the field of foreign languages, I passed two internationally-oriented study programmes. On the one hand my first studies with the academic degree of “Bachelor of Arts in European Business Administration” at the Cologne Business School   (www.cbs-edu.de) in co-operation with the University of Hertfordshire (UK) (www.herts.ac.uk) and on the other hand supplementary studies with the academic degree of “Master of European Administrative Management” at the University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Law Berlin (www.fhvr-berlin.de).  The focus of these studies was on the fields of:

European Business Administration, European Economics, Foreign Trade, International Management, Entrepreneurship, European Law, Labour Law, Trade and Balance Sheet Law, International Accounting as well as Intercultural Co-operation. Furthermore, there was a focus on the foreign languages English and French during my studies. In these languages I passed oral and written exams every semester.

The know-how I acquired is very useful for me in the framework of my work as a translator. A translator must, for example, have expertise with regard to the characteristics of other cultures, because the translated text must be understood correctly. In the framework of my legal translations thorough knowledge of law is indispensable, and for the translation of balance sheets and annual reports my knowledge of International Accounting is very helpful.
